Kayaking Weekend

The Castlewellan Forest Park,
Quiet, peaceful, serene...  That is until ALT arrives!

On the 25-27th of October, we took a group of keen kayakers down to Greenhill for the weekend.  Not to be discouraged by the weather forecasters, it wasn't long before all were out and splashing about on the water.  Here are some of the more memorable pictures taken during the trip, on location at Castlewellan lake.

It's alright, there are no leaks, its just his contact lens!

Under the ever-watchful eye of the instructor, kayakers learn about the hazards of the water, and how to avoid them

The Castlewellan grounds are both extensive and beautiful,
but few are privileged to view it from the water

"Here's lookin' at you, kid!",
Kayaking can be enjoyed by girls just as much as boys

Just time for a cup of heart-warming tea,
before plunging into the chilling Castlewellan waters

Knowing how to 'recover' from a capsized kayak is an essential skill, which can, in the face of danger, save your life

Being able to navigate on your journey is essential
to gaining your 3 Star Kayak award

The art of relaxing is also a skill, only acquired by much practice, as explained by this motley crew!
